How We Got Our Start
When Jane arrived in Oshawa to set her clinical practice, her vision was to provide the Durham region a family-centered TCM healthcare with a focus on life-sustainable health. Now, with the regulation of TCM in Ontario in 2013, she sees the potential of TCM in moving forward in integrative health and primary healthcare — as led by examples in China and other Asian countries. With other countries, such as the United States, Canada, and United Kingdom discovering the benefits of TCM, now the world can see that this global medicine can be shared by everyone!
With her practice expanding to provide patient-centered services, she was happy when her brother and fellow practitioner, Frederic, decided to move to Toronto and help her at the clinic on a part-time basis. Hence the dynamic duo team!
To fulfill their role as responsible health professionals, they understand the expectations to maintain and improve their skills over time and that by participating in ongoing professional development results in improved patient outcomes. Here at the clinic, it is mandatory that a minimum of 30 hours a year is spent on continuing education and professional development. Besides clinical practice, they also support the growth of the TCM profession through advocating and teaching.
Life-sustainable health for our Durham region community is what our clinic offers as we continue to ensure public confidence and high standards of our profession.
Let us be part of your healthcare team!
Since 1996, Jane has been practising Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture (TCM/A). She first practised with her family in London at the Institute of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, which was established in 1972 by her father, Prof. Cedric Cheung. Over the years, they have enjoyed an open and rewarding relationship with their patients and their families. In fact, most of them have been “referred” via word of mouth.
With both parents being Traditional Chinese Medicine doctors, Jane grew up appreciating this wonderful ancient healing art. So after graduating with a Bachelor of Science at the University of Western Ontario, followed by a a Diploma in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture (TCM/A), it was a natural transition to continue this ancient healing art to benefit others, herself, and now, her three small children, Sarah, Emma and Aaron.
In addition to her clinical practice in Oshawa, Ontario, Jane is one of the many passionate advocates for the TCM community in Canada. As a proactive member of CMAAC, Jane is excited to be working towards expanding the acceptance of TCM in integrative healthcare via media campaigns and through associations with Insurance Providers and major health organizations, like WHO (World Health Organization). She continues to look forward to connecting with her community in promoting the health benefits that TCM/A can offer. In the past, Jane has accomplished this via her roles as Vice-President (External Relations, CMAAC) and co-organizer of the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies (WFAS) International Acupuncture Symposium at Toronto in 2015.
She has been a registered member of the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario (CTCMPAO) since 2013.
Frederic began his studies in TCM and acupuncture in 1995 at the Institute of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture of Canada. In 1999, he graduated and started working full time under his teacher Prof. Cedric Cheung at the Institute of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture in London, Ontario. For 13 years, Frederic gained priceless experience treating patients seven days a week. His teacher remarked often enough how experience gained in clinical practice is not taught in books. In addition, Frederic learned about the "healing heart" from his teacher, which is the understanding of how the healing of the patient comes from within and that a true doctor must treat patients with sincerity, compassion and devotion.
In 2007, Frederic enrolled in passed the International Acupuncture Examination in Beijing, China.
Frederic continues to practise medicine in both Toronto and Oshawa. He is also part of the teaching faculty at the Ontario College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which offers a four-year diploma in advanced TCM in Markham. He vows to dedicate his life to medicine and to taking care of his patients.
Frederic is also a long-standing supporting member of the Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Association of Canada (CMAAC) and a registered member of the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario (CTCMPAO).
Beatrice Arevalo serves as the clinic’s administrator. She brings 5 years of administrative and client service experience to the clinic.
